biking NYC traffic free

This past Sunday a few hardy** Design Trust staffers braved the early morning rain and biked 70(!) miles to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The West Side Highway, FDR Drive, the Lincoln Tunnel and other major city thoroughfares were all closed to cars for the ride. It was pretty incredible to experience the city traffic free, and made us realize (yet again) how much of our city is given over to the vehicle. Thanks to NYC’s Dept. of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan for making this car-free ride possible!

Here’s a map of our route:

Our team, the Handlebar Gang, raised over $7,000 for MS (thank you friends and family!), and was sponsored by the architectural firm Specht Harpman (Principal Louise Harpman rode with the Gang) and the children’s furniture company, Duc Duc.
